Adnan is a veterinarian and scientist specializing in experimental and clinical parasitology, as well as molecular biology. He holds the designation of EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Parasitology. Currently, Adnan is a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science, where he leads an independent research project funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). This project aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying the complex interactions between the Ixodes ricinus tick, its microbiome, and Borrelia species - the causative agents of Lyme borreliosis. His research enhances the understanding of vector-borne diseases and contributes to the development of alternative strategies for their prevention and control.
Research Topics
Host-pathogen-microbiome interactions
Tick immunity
Innovative strategies for controlling arthropod vectors and vector-borne diseases
α-Gal immunity and α-Gal-based vaccines
