DOME Senior Scientist Alejandro Manzano Marín received funding for his project “SymBirth – Development of an artificial symbiont’s birth” from the Austrian Science Fund's 1000 Ideas program ("Tausend Ideen"). The project aims to develop the European pond turtle leech (Placobdella costata) and its rhizobial symbiont as an experimental system to study the genomic and phenotypic factors at the onset of an obligate symbiosis.
