Bacteriocyte-Associated Symbionts Of Insects

Past Projects DOME

The presence of heritable bacterial endosymbionts in insects is widespread in nature. Their roles range from obligate mutualists with essential nutritional functions and facultative mutualists necessary for host protection to parasites manipulating the host’s reproductive system. Symbiosis with bacteria thus is a key factor driving the ecology and the evolution of insects.
