Missing Links In The Marine Sulfur Cycle – Identity And Functions Of Microorganisms Utilizing Sulfur Cycle Intermediates And Organic Sulfur Molecules In Marine Sediments

Past Projects DOME | Alexander Loy

The sediments underlying our oceans are inhabited by massive numbers of microbes that contribute substantially to global cycles of elements such as carbon, to and from the oceans and atmosphere. Additionally, since marine environments are replete with sulfur-containing chemicals, many microbes have evolved to utlise sulfur compounds to drive growth, with the oxidation of sulfur and the reduction of sulfate being relatively well studied aspects.
